Background & CV

Shane Snipes, Ph.D. is a full-time faculty member (Assistant Professor) at the Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY, teaching and researching entrepreneurship education and mindfulness. He’s a pro at mentoring small businesses, having guided 16 from idea to launch and beyond. He has mentored more than 700 students since 2017. This is especially significant because most funding and mentoring opportunities are geared toward tech startups, leaving other types of small businesses out of the picture.

He’s a scholar and practitioner, having received fellowships and grants for his work in mindfulness and entrepreneurship education. He also founded the NYC chapter of 1 Million Cups, a Kauffman Foundation-supported startup community. Started a faculty project-kit called Citizen Entrepreneur Explorers Program (CEEP) which Kauffman Foundation has offered to support its expansion from 2020-2024. He also brought a Blackstone LaunchPad to the BMCC campus helping any major discover entrepreneurship.

Dr. Snipes has an impressive background, with a BA from NC State University, an MBA from Vytautas Magnus University, and a PhD from Prescott College. He even received a Fulbright Scholarship for research in post-soviet Lithuania!

With 28 years of experience in technology, startup, HR, and social entrepreneurship, Dr. Snipes is a well-rounded expert. He’s launched innovation labs for Fortune 100 companies and founded sustainability analytics firm, OneGreener. And he’s not afraid of failure, as evidenced by his fashion accessory venture that never took off.
